When the Society of Health & Communication made the decision to move to a free membership model, their existing website quickly became a problem. The platform they were using had been built around paid memberships and carried an ongoing monthly fee to manage the site and database. They were investing money into a system that no longer aligned with their direction.
It was not just costly. It was limiting.
The backend was difficult to manage, the design felt dated, and the overall presence did not reflect who they were becoming. As a communications focused organisation, they knew their brand needed to demonstrate clarity and credibility. Instead, the site felt overly corporate and visually flat.
We began by working closely with the board to clarify their goals. What role does the organisation play today? Who are they serving? What experience should members have when they engage? Once we aligned on direction, we refreshed the brand to better represent their evolution. A modernised logo. A refined visual system. A cohesive look that carried across the website, email marketing, and social platforms.
From there, we rebuilt the website from the ground up. The new structure prioritised usability. Becoming a member is now simple and intuitive. Past and upcoming events are clearly organised and easy to access. The entire experience was designed to remove friction and support growth.
We also developed custom email templates aligned with the new brand and delivered a concise brand guide to ensure consistency moving forward. Finally, we trained the core board team so they could confidently manage the backend themselves without relying on outside support.
The results were both practical and strategic:
- Elimination of ongoing platform fees, freeing budget for other initiatives
- Increased ease of membership registration
- Clear, organised event communication
- Modernised brand presence across web and email
- Board members confidently managing the site in house
This was more than a visual refresh. It was a realignment. The organisation now has a platform that reflects its purpose, supports its members, and operates efficiently behind the scenes.
