What You Need to Create a Website!

If you are a new business and are thinking it’s time to get working on your website you may be wondering what do you need and where to start.

Your first website can be overwhelming so I always recommend breaking things down to work on one thing at a time. This will help you stay focussed and keep the overwhelm at bay. Having a web team that helps you to understand all the things will also go a long way.

Ultimately the basics of what you need include:

1️⃣ Domain name purchased – we like to use Namecheap and sometimes Godaddy for domains. Try to keep your short and sweet if possible. We recently changed our domain to be found through fhds.ca along with our existing flyinghorsedesignstudio.com
Time needed – 5-10 minutes.

2️⃣ Hosting purchased – Our favourites are Siteground and Izoox however there are many good options. Make sure you get an expert opinion on who to use based on your needs so you don’t get stuck with bad hosting.
Time needed – 5-10 minutes.

3️⃣ Logo, photography and written content – Decide if stock photos or a photoshoot are best for you and if you will write all your content or work with a copywriter. I always hire a copywriter to take what I write and make it better.

4️⃣ A clear message of who you are and what you do – This ties in with your written content and is SUPER important. If you’re not clear in your message for how you solve a problem you will not likely generate any leads from your website.

5️⃣ A great designer and/or developer – Hiring an expert to get you set up takes the stress out of creating a website and frees up your time to work on your business. An expert also knows how to ensure your site looks great, functions properly, works across all devices and platforms and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

If you feel clear on what is needed but lost on getting it all together do not fret! I have some connections to some great people who can help you with developing your content so you can come into a website build with clarity. Message me here and let me know where you’re feeling stuck and I will happily connect you to people that can help.

If you’re ready to get rolling on your website let’s chat. Fall is a great time to get started as it sets you up for 2023 before the rush of the holidays.
